I received my G1 a few days before the release date and YES I am late. Is this a surprise? Probably not. I’ve been slackin’ recently but hey, its here.

I must admit it feels good having something that not many have. When I got my G1 everyone was trying to check it out. A week or two later my younger brother received his and we have yet to see anyone else with the G1 so that’s pretty cool. ha.
Touch screen is awesome. I’m broke (with a G1 – real Puerto Rican for you) so touch screen was totally new to me. I even caught myself touching the screen of my laptop trying to get to where I wanted. weird.
The G1 is a Google phone so it’s pretty cool that I can check out my Google calender and edit it on the phone or on the computer. Maps (sort of like mapquest) is also really handy.
I am loving the fact that I can download free ring-tones from myxer.com especially if it’s a Christian song I want as a ring-tone. When I had a Motorola, Sidekick 3 and a Sidekick LX I had to buy many ring-tones and I wasted A LOT of money so I am extremely happy with this. Thanks a bunch to @urbanjibaro who told me about this site.
With the sidekick 3 and sidekick LX I had to PAY for the download-able applications. The G1 gives you all the applications for free AND you can read the reviews/comments. You can scans bar codes with the G1 and it shows local stores/sites with the same item to compare prices. Other applications are weather, menstrual cycle tracker (comes in handy ladies), bible verses, games, flashlight, big clock/time, and just about anything you can think of and the market is growing.
YouTube is also available. You can use the browser to go to youtube.com search videos, select the one you want and it will play in the YouTube application.
The text messages hold hundreds at a time and all messages from one person show in a list sort of like a chatting format. It is much easier to read and not forget what the person is talking about. I used to have to delete messages all the time and with the G1 I do not have to delete messages unless I want to get rid of something.
The phone even has GPS. YES…GPS.
I know I am not describing this phone to the best of my ability but it does sounds pretty cool right?
Well… it’s pretty awesome but NOT all that as many make it seem.
The 3G network is only available in certain cities/states and Connecticut is not one of them. How is it that AT&T and Verizon have 3G everywhere and T-mobile doesn’t? Well, I do not know if they have 3G everywhere; I will have to see. Since I don’t have 3G I cannot use GPS; here it only tracks how fast I am going. Why would I want to know how fast the car is going if I can look at the meter IN the car? hm. I need directions people. The maps application gives you directions but live GPS would be pretty amazing.
Camera: I loved the Sidekick LXcamera much better. This one takes longer to take a picture because it “adjusts” on it’s own to take “better” pictures. no good. I have to see if I can take that option out, doubt it. oh.. and no video camera. How is it that the Sidekick LX had an update and started having video recording but the G1 which is a brand new phone with so many features does not have video recording?
Price If you are a brand new customer you can get the G1 for $179.99 which sounds pretty good.. but it’s the same or close to the price of an iPhone. How is that? Want to know the beauty? For current customers the price is over $300. YES, I need to pay over $300 for my phone AND they still extended my contract for two years. INSANE. My fault because I just HAD to get a new phone. I was good with my sidekick LX. I loved it actually. That’s OK. But $300 is too much for a phone.
Accessories: I cannot find any accessories. I do not have a screen protector how am I suppose to protect my screen? ugh. I must pay $10 for someone in the mall to put it on for me. ONE. Am I the only one who thinks this is too much money? Maybe I am cheap. I also need a case to protect it and none available! Thank God I have not dropped my phone.
I was a sidekick user for over 18 months so I am used to having the keyboard in the middle with some phone space in my palm before getting to the keys so it took some time to get used to the G1. The G1′s keyboard is on the left side and then the bottom buttons are on the right side. I messed up a lot when writing because I had to hold the phone differently and the buttons are much thinner than the sidekick.
New Phones? Talking about making mistakes with thin keys how do people expect to type good with that new phone with the keyboard in the screen. Is it the blackberry storm? I get confused with ALL the new phones coming out.
How is it that T-mobile came out with a new touch screen 3G cell phone then ATT & Verizon came out with some AND then t-mobile also comes out with a brand new phone??
I had it with new phones. These phones are not worth the hundreds plus $35+ a month of just data plans alone PLUS the regular voice plan.
I’m not upgrading to a new phone again unless that phone can turn itself into a safe working car.
